Marvel Heroes Omega – Age of Apocalypse Event Omega Pack Review
Recently Marvel Heroes Omega added a new event called “Age Of Apocalypse” to the game, bringing a new terminal which sees players battling against the Four Horsemen: Jean Grey (Death), Storm (Pestilence), Psylocke (War) and Magik (Famine).
The terminal is free for everyone to play and lasted about 15 to 20 minutes and offer a nice new location in Egypt and a nice boost of loot upon completion. I’d have preferred to have had a final battle with Apocalypse to end it, but I’m glad this content is being added to the game and well worth playing through a few times to level up characters.
Along with this event, there were new enhanced costumes added to the game for all four of the Horsemen characters, plus a new Loot Box, containing special costumes and Omega Prestige for the four characters.
A limited time only special pack was released on both the PS4 and Xbox One, which consisted of:
- Jean Grey with Omega Prestige Unlock
- Magik with Omega Prestige Unlock
- Psylocke with Omega Prestige Unlock
- Storm with Omega Prestige Unlock
- Jean Grey Apocalypse Event Enhanced Costume
- Magik Apocalypse Event Enhanced Costume
- Psylocke Apocalypse Event Enhanced Costume
- Storm Apocalypse Event Enhanced Costume
- 8,000 Gs
- 10X Combination Boosts
At a whopping $80/£53, this pack is not for your average player, especially considering that is more than a full AAA game would cost. Though it does offer some good value for money for serious players, if you look at the in-game currency G’s alone since 8000 G’s would cost almost $80 alone. So if you regularly purchase G’s in bulk, then all the costumes and characters are a bonus.
Getting four characters and four special costumes to go with it, does make this pack look much more attractive than the recent Prestige character pack, Spider-Man, which was $40 for one character.
However personally I’ve little interest in leveling up a character more than once, so getting a “fast forward” to boost a character the the final stage is a nice bonus, though you still have to level up to 60 to unlock everything. For me, Prestige doesn’t offer value since I like to dip in and out of the game, play with different characters and events. I wouldn’t spend thousands of hours leveling up all my characters to the maximum, when I could be playing other video games. So that aspect of this pack isn’t of any importance to me.
For me, getting four playable characters, 4 costumes and all those G’s, does make the pack look good value for money, however as a “Free To Play”game, this bolt on isn’t for everyone. And having previously unlocked a few of the characters like Jean Grey, Psylocke and Storm from the X-Men pack back in the summer, which does mean some of the value was lost for older players, however I feel this pack isn’t for people to unlock all four characters from scratch, though if you are, this is a good way of doing it.
Check out our recent Podcast episode where James and I discuss the event and pack:
OVERVIEW: The packs costumes are unique and jump starting a character will save plenty of time if you want to get to that level. But where this pack stands out in that it does offer some great value for money, especially if you are a seriously player who was already planning on picking up some G’s. Since the pack offers four playable characters, four premium costumes, boosts and the prestige level for these characters, on top of a big pile of in-game cash. If your going to spend that money on G’s anyway, this pack is a good option. However for new players, this pack isn’t cheap and that makes is a harder recommendation for newbies to the game.
