Star Wars: Rivals Mobile Game Cancelled Before It’s Even Released

Disney have announced that they will be shutting down their real-time competitive action shooter mobile game, Star Wars: Rivals, before its even been globally released.

Last year, we reported that Disney were releasing a new mobile game, Star Wars: Rivals, which was released earlier this year in some regions including Australia and New Zealand, in a “soft launch”.  However the game hasn’t received any updates in the past 6 months, which is usually when games are tweaked during player feedback during soft launches.

Here is the official statement:

STAR WARS: Rivals will be shutting down on October 11, 2018. As of September 11, 2018, in-app purchases are no longer offered and the game is no longer available for download.

You can continue to enjoy the game until October 11, 2018. No refunds or credits will be offered for any virtual goods, game currency or other items purchased by or provided to you. We appreciate your support and understanding.

No other details for the cancellation of this game were announced, but following the EA Star Wars Battlefront 2 microtransaction backlash, this could have been a major reason why the launch was delayed.  And with Zynga recently being brought on to run Star Wars Commander and launch a new title, this could be another reason for the cancellation.

Why do you think Rivals was cancelled?
