Travel, Cinderella concept art: 5 Fave New Disney Books This Week, October 23-29
In this week’s fave list, we search for honey with Winnie, travel the world, find our way around WDW, read classic comics, and see production art from Cinderella.
All titles on this list will be released at some point between October 23 and 29, 2022.
If you watched the D23 Expo, you may have seen the soft launch of 100 Disney Adventures of a Lifetime: Magical Experiences From Around the World. The 400 pages look at things ranging from a child’s first haircut on Main Street, U.S.A. to a 24-day world tour arranged by National Geographic.
Featuring a forward from Joe Rohde, the National Geographic book is by Marcy Carriker Smothers, who has authored a variety of other Disney titles including Delicious Disney: Walt Disney World.
On the topic of travel, in a world with hundreds of Disney news and fan sites, and with the My Disney Experience app, do you really still need a print travel guide? To be honest, probably not.
But occasional visitors to the vacation kingdom will appreciate Birnbaum’s clear, summarized information. The latest vacation guide — Birnbaum’s Walt Disney World: The Official Vacation Guide 2023 — is up to date with the latest information on the resort. It’s still the top selling WDW travel book.
The list price is $19.99, but Amazon sells it for $14.99.
If you love Duck Tales, thank the late Carl Barks. That show was shaped by his decades of Duckberg, classic comics that have built even more of a fan base in the decades since their original release.
Fantagraphics is out with another 400 pages of reprints, in The Complete Carl Barks Disney Library, “Christmas in Duckberg” and “Under the Polar Ice.” This two volume set is $69.99.
This week also sees the release of Walt Disney’s Mickey Mouse: The Monster of Sawtooth Mountain.
“The Art of” movie books have a solid fan base, but they’re primarily for adults. Eight- to twelve-year-olds now get their chance to see the art, in an adaptation of a beloved Disney film. Disney Animated Classics: Cinderella places the painting, sketches, and concept art of the Mary Blair, Marc Davis, and Milt Kahl in this new setting.
Studio Fun International mash-up joins adaptations of Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Alice in Wonderland, and Beauty and the Beast released in 2020 and 2021.
How wonderful to see that Disney Baby: Honey for Pooh is a classic sound book. In case you’ve never come across one of these titles, the book’s text has graphics for the sound effects, to be played throughout a reading. It encourages kids to follow along, developing reading comprehension.
The plot of this one is pretty straight-forward, as one might expect: Winnie the Pooh and Tigger look for honey in the Hundred Acre Wood. This board book from Pi Kids is $15.99.
This list is meant as a summary of the most interesting sounding Disney or Disney-related books in the next week. DisKingdom has not actually reviewed any of these books, beyond public sales listings. This is meant to inform you of options, but not necessarily recommend.
