Disney’s Lorcana – What To Preorder

“Disney Lorcana” is a brand-new, welcoming, collectable trading card game (TCG) with unique and magical gameplay that features beloved Disney characters in both original and reimagined ways in an all-new world.

The game was designed to be easy to learn and welcoming for newcomers to TCGs while still offering strategic depth and challenges for experienced players.

Disney collectors will love it as well, since it contains more original Disney artwork than any other single product ever created.

Pre-orders are opening up slowly at retailers, and it’s import to note that this game is going to get a split release date. Local game stores will be getting the game to sell on 18th August 2023, while mass retailers will be releasing the game on 1st September 2023. So ideally, I’d recommend going to your local game store to pre-order, if you want to get the game as soon as possible and more importantly, make some new friends and players to have games with. Local Game Stores are also going to be supported by a robust organized play program, offering unique ways to connect with other players of the game.

There are a number of different options available to get into the game, including a simple deck pack, which provides everything you need to get into the game, along with more bigger packages with more options for new players.

“Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter” will include more than 200 game cards that will be collectable via three starter decks, a gift set, booster packs and the “Illumineer’s Trove”. To help further immerse players in the world of Disney Lorcana, themed playmats, card sleeves, deck boxes and card portfolios featuring Disney Lorcana art will also be available at the launch.

Here’s a look at what’s available at launch:

Since everybody is going to be a brand new player, we’re all going to be in the same position with regards to learning the game from scratch, even if it does have some elements similar to other Trading Card Games.

With regards as to what you need to pre-order.  It’s pretty simple.  Ultimately, the minimum you will need is a Starter Deck.  There are three different ones to choose from, but you can buy this pack, and you’re good to go.  So if you want to dip your toe into the game, try it out and have everything you need in one box, this is a good way to go.    If you want to play against a friend or family member, you’ll both need one of these sets, so maybe buy two different sets, to offer some variety.

If you know your going to be getting into the game and want everything, then this is where it gets a little more fun and expensive.

Personally, I’m going to be getting one of the Starter sets, along with both The Illumineer’s Trove and Gift Set, along with a Maui play mat.   As this will provide me with at enough to 12 blind booster packs, which are over 144 cards,  so enough choice to begin with to try to collect all of the cards, plus the starter kit will mean I’ve got everything needed to play on day one and enough for a second player to practice with.  Plus, I know I’ll be picking up more booster packs at a later date.

It’s also worth noting that the Gift Set box set doesn’t include enough cards to play straight away.

But once again, the minimum you need to buy is just a single starter deck to get into the game, so you can’t go too wrong with just getting one of them.
