Cosplay Highlights from Fan Expo Canada 2024: from Star vs. to Cruella to The Marvels

Fan conventions allow people like us to find kinship in the real world, with people who love the same things we do. Sometimes, that love is turned into cosplay.

Fan Expo Canada is on-going this weekend, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Here’s the Disney, Marvel, Star Wars, and 20th Century Studios from the Friday “Cosplay Red Carpet.”

Linda and Louise Belcher from Bob’s Burgers:

“Bookish Belle,” a dress made of old book pages:

Briar Rose:

A drag take on Cinderella:

Cruella de Vil:

Darth Vader:

Dr. Doom:

The Fairy Godmother:

Gravity Falls’ Dipper and Mabel Pines:

Two generations of Jasmines:

Macho Man Randy Savage? But of course, he was the voice of “Thug Actor” in 2008’s Bolt, don’t you remember?

Sora from Kingdom Hearts:

Spidergwen:

Spidergwen:

Spiderman was so busy doing flips along the carpet, I doubt if the official photographer got a picture:

Star Lord:

Star Butterfly from Star vs. the Forces of Evil:

The Marvels‘ Monica Rambeau:

A Tusken Raider from The Mandalorian:

Wolverine and Deadpool:

There was a Disney cosplay meet up Friday, before the red carpet.

Perhaps the most delightfully surprising is a Zazu puppet, based on the Disney on Broadway production:

A Disney princess group was strolling through the South Hall, complete with Princess Leia:

Finally, the Cosplay Showcase featured a number of intricate outfits on display. Renaissance Scarlet Witch, by Pretty Nerdy Crystal, took eight months to create. According to the display, “they made all but the hoop skirt, using beads, ribbon, grommets, satin, brocade. Hand sewing and machine sewing was used to construct the dress and head piece.”
