Why We Can’t Have Nice Things: Muppet Labs at Epcot Destroyed Hours After Debut
At last year’s Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, we were introduced to the Brew-Wing Lab at The Odyssey of Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and his assistant, Beaker. The Muppets-themed drinking attraction was popular enough that this year’s festival brought it back with more new merchandise and additional theming, including a table of props.
This lab setup was setup behind stanchions, with props glued to the table, to ensure it remained picture perfect for thousands of photos. After all, the festival runs until November 23 this year.
Here’s some footage of the Muppet Labs display
By the afternoon of August 29, it was gone. “Literally every piece was detached from the table and broken,” posted Threads user shiningshimmeringsara. Another user, stuckinneverlandco “saw this happening, and those kids were being ROUGH. Yanking and ripping stuff off. Even the custodial was shaking their head and the parents stood RIGHT NEXT TO THEM WATCHING.” Sara replied that the parents were laughing at the site.
Here’s the result, as pictured by stuckinneverlandco:
Criticism of the destruction has been unanimous.
themegansunday replied, “As a parent, I simply cannot understand this. My kiddo isn’t the destructive type but even if she decided to try it out there’s no way we’d let it slide? We live in a SOCIETY.” ingathewriter noted that “entitled parents have always existed but I feel like it has gotten SO MUCH WORSE since the pandemic… a shocking number of parents seem to have just decided that their kids don’t need to be concerned about anyone other than themselves. It’s wild.”
There’s no word if the display will be replaced.
