HURRY: Disney Movie Insiders Prizes Depleting Quickly
Disney Movie Insiders is ending this December after 18 years, as reported on a few days ago by What’s On Disney Plus. The service has slowly but surely been wrapped up, quietly ending its podcast in July 2023, and discontinuing its app last September.
There’s been a mad rush of redemptions over the last few days, leaving many items out of stock. Disney warns of possible delays, as they deal with the influx.
So if your points haven’t already expired — yes, if you login for the first time in forever, you might find a door that’s closed as I did — what’s left to purchase? Mostly DVDs, posters (including for the documentary Good Chemistry: The Story of Elemental),
D23 Gold memberships for 2024
Both the Gold Individual and Gold Duo memberships are still available for 2024, each offering a Sorcerer Mickey collectible figurine, mystery character figurine, two D23 enchanted object pins, and playing cards. Other perks include a subscription to the quarterly D23 publication, but no word whether they’ll send you the back issues.
Individual membership is 3200 points, duo is 4500 points.
Upcycled Wish banner backpack
Disney took a set of Wish theatre banners, and a Los Angeles company cleaned and repurposed them as bags. Every design is unique, depending on where the material was cut from the banner.
A member exclusive, these go for 3600 points. Bob’s Burger banners as belt bags are 1850 points.
Executive tribute
How many people are clambering for a photo print of Peter Schneider, Roy E. Disney and Jeffrey Katzenberg together, during a story retreat?
Peter Schneider was the president of Walt Disney Feature Animation from 1985 to 1999, responsible for shepherding a fantastic lineup of timeless films. But Disney Renaissance or not, he’s still an executive.
Even if you don’t go beyond the title, film journalist Drew Taylor’s 2020 article says it all: “The Disney Renaissance didn’t happen because of Jeffrey Katzenberg; It Happened In Spite of Him.” He would go on to found DreamWorks Animation, and then Quibi.
I have a fond spot in my heart for Roy E. Disney, watchdog of the company for decades. Ironically, it was Roy who helped block Katzenberg from the company’s president position in 1994, after Frank Wells’ death.
Rounding back to Disney Movie Insiders, why in the world was this image chosen in the first place? What was the intended audience? Even if you have Disney Wars, DreamWorks SKG tome The Men Who Would Be King, and Michael Eisner auto-biography Work in Progress on your bookshelf, would you really care for this odd combo on your wall?
The pack also includes Richard and Robert Sherman on the Disney studio lot, and most appealingly, Walt dancing during his wartime tour of South America. No one in the pack is identified, Walt being so small as to be barely identifiable in the thumbnail.
Limit 1 pack per Disney Movie Insiders member, 1300 points.
Disney Bundleworks lunchbox
Remember the interactive attraction Disney+ created in 2022, to promote the fact you could subscribe to Hulu and ESPN+ at the same time? No, neither do I. But that game stop was called Disney Bundleworks. You can get a lunchbox with its graphics, for the sale price of 1300 points. Of more wide appeal, there’s also a Jungle Book lunch bag, 900 points.
Frozen II makeup
I’ll let Disney itself explain:
Transform into Arendelle’s most beloved princess with this enchanting makeup kit. Featuring a frosty palette of eyeshadows, shimmering lip glosses, and a touch of icy blush, this kit is perfect for creating a magical winter wonderland look.
You can redeem 1200 points for the kit.
Trouble board game
The patent on Trouble, launched in 1965, must have expired: there’s an admittedly interesting Disney and Pixar Incredibles 2 Pop-Up Game available for 900 points.
