Orlando’s $2 Bus Service to Disney Continues After Renewal
Orlando’s affordable transit service will continue to run to Walt Disney World, authorities decided yesterday.
Since 1972, LYNX transit provides routes around Florida’s Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties. It’s surprisingly cheap, at just $2 a ride, but behind the scenes the transit authority negotiates routes with the municipalities.
Here’s the thing: Walt Disney World is geographically within two counties, and two cities. Because of this, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (formerly Reedy Creek) has to pay for service to its area. In a rapid fire meeting yesterday afternoon, officials approved the $1,656,888 contract.
Park employees will be happy to know that all four routes around the vacation kingdom will continue: Link 56, Link 306, Link 350, and Link 307, the “Disney Circulator,” which sounds like it was named by Dr. Doofenshmirtz.
The meeting also dealt with emergency radio services, escalators and elevators, and saw a new mid-mount aerial ladder truck purchased for the fire department. An ordinance/resolution regarding future land use, “Comprehensive Plan 2045,” was also approved. The document governs how Disney grows over the next two decades.
