Disney Dominate The US Box Office In 2016


Details on the 2016 US Box Office have been revealed by ComScore and Disney dominated the charts with 6 movies in the top 10, 7 if you count Deadpool, which was made by FOX.

Finding Dory was the best selling movie of the year, bringing in over $486 million since its release in June, followed by Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Marvel’s Civil War, both bringing in over $408 million. And Rogue One was only just released in 2016, so it will continue to raise more money over the following weeks. Which is similar to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was the 10th best selling movie of 2016, with $286 million.

Disney also had major success with, The Jungle Book, which brought in $364 million and Zootopia. that brought in $341 million. Marvel also had a hit with Deadpool, bringing in $363 million.

Other movies released in 2016 include Doctor Strange, Pete’s Dragon and Alice Through The Looking Glass. These figures only represent the US box office, as globally, Disney brought in over $7 billion worth of ticket sales worldwide, making it the most successful year ever.

2017 should continue the trend, with some major releases such as Star Wars: Episode VIII, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2 plus Disney movies including Cars 3, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales, Coco and Beauty and the the Beast.
