Fans Furious With EA’s Response To Star Wars Battlefront 2 Complaints
With the launch of Star Wars Battlefront 2 this week, many fans have been playing the game on early in EA Access and they’ve been very vocal about the controversial progression system, where players worked out they would need to spend almost 40 hours playing to earn enough credits to unlock a heroes like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker for the multiplayer mode.
This complaint originally started during the Beta in October, when players didn’t like how the Loot Crates would unlock content, with many saying how it was a Pay To Win game.
EA took to Reddit to address some of the players issues, one of which is now one of the all-time top downvoted posts on the site.
“The intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for unlocking different heroes. As for cost, we selected initial values based upon data from the open beta and other adjustments made to milestone rewards before launch. Among other things, we’re looking at average per-player credit earn rates on a daily bases, and we’ll be making constant adjustments to ensure that players have challenges that are compelling, rewarding and of course attainable via gameplay.
We appreciate the candid feedback, and the passion the community has put forth around the current topics here on reddit, our forums and across numerous social media outlets.
Our team will continue to make changes and monitor community feedback and update everyone as soon and as often as we can.”
The issue of microtransactions continues to be a huge issue for not just Star Wars Battlefront 2 and other video games. As game companies try to monetise their games and launch “games as services”, this game might have pushed players to far.
While players can play as heroes in the Arcade mode and Heroes Vs Villains mode, the main multiplayer mode is where the majority of players compete. With many of the original heroes like Boba Fett and Han Solo being free in the original game plus additional characters sold in the Season Pass. This year saw EA Announce there was no Season Pass for the game, but that was replaced with these microtransactions.
Star Wars: Battlefront II releases on November 17th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
