Custom Corner: Green Goblin vs. Spiderman

Wake up, little spider! It’s good vs. evil this week with the Green Goblin facing off against Spiderman in this epic POP duo created by Rask Opticon. Using some impressive illusions this Green Goblin rides his glider through the air on a supportive stream of smoke while our friendly neighborhood Spiderman fights the good fight from his wall-side perch.

Rask is no stranger to customization, having worked on custom vinyls from Kidrobot and Vinylmation lines since late 2012. He moved into POP territory after receiving a commission for a custom Baymax POP and, after a few commissions, he tried one for himself, a Darth Maul Yoda. His POP customs have taken off from there, spanning a myriad of characters and universes.

“A client reached out to me after seeing a DragonBall Z/GT custom I did for someone else,” Rask said on his inspiration for these archnemeses. “She wanted a very special Spiderman custom for her 14yr old son. She didn’t want just any ol’ Spidey, it had to be special.”

Given freedom in his design and the drive to try something new, Rask sketched out an idea and took off with it, using a variety of materials and some DIY POPs to sculpt the POPs and stands from scratch. Smooth airbrushing and a deft hand bring the painted details to life, and even his signature gives Spidey’s wall some realistic graffitied character.
