Disney Consumer Products & Disney Interactive Merge

According to a variety of reports, Disney is merging its Disney Consumer Products and Disney Interactive companies into one larger company, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media.

Both current presidents of both companies, Leslie Ferraro (Disney Consumer Products) and Jimmy Pitaro (Disney Interactive will now co-chair the new larger company.  And a Disney spokeswoman has said no Layoffs are expected as a result of the merge.

This news follows on from the recently announced PlayMation which combines toys and technology, which is an area Disney want to expand into.

Disney COO Tom Staggs announced “As technology and digital entertainment continue to evolve, a shared innovation strategy will enable this new segment to create unique and engaging products and experiences that exceed consumers’ expectations.”

Both DCP and DI will now report combined revenue and operating income starting in the company’s fiscal 2016, which will begin in late September.
