Custom Corner: Tower of Terror

Rask Opticon is back this week to help us fall back to 1939 and a certain haunted Hollywood hotel.  From the hotel sign overhead to the haunting bellhops by the lit elevator door, this set takes us beyond the deepest, darkest corner of the imagination to the Tower of Terror.

Custom Corner: Tower of Terror

One of the fundamental steps in Opticon’s process is keeping true to the basic vinylmation shape, a challenge he embraces so that the figure is still instantly recognizable to a vinylmation collector or fan.  Beyond the Mickey Mouse ears, though, there’s still a lot of room for imagination.  “I love the freedom of the blank vinylmation,” Opticon said of the figures.  “It allows me to do the face of a character however I please.”  We can see the same basic vinylmation figure still in these, though elongated for the tower’s purposes, and Opticon’s expert painting skills ages the hotel while bringing the thrill and terror of one of Disney’s most infamous rides to life, allowing us to step through the door of an elevator and into a nightmare.  Be careful you don’t find yourself a permanent resident.
