July Recap #training #runDisney

It’s training season,  I hit my highest mileage month ever, 150.4 miles logged. July was hot, humid and full of fun. I was following my marathon training program exactly, and then life happens and you have to combine runs. I found myself still wanting to log more miles than the plan required. I really don’t want to get an injury from running too much so I’ve spent some time talking to friends to see what adjustments I could make. And, it’s paying off.

Instead of running longer when I feel like I could do 4-5 more miles I’ve been running 1-2 miles faster. It’s a great speed work out, breaks up my work out and makes my body feel stretched and my running complete for that session. When you break up your training into different segments you use different muscles and see better results. For example this past week I’ve been working on hill repeats and speed work – I hate running on the track, but I do it- because my ‘coach’ tells me to. 😉

This weekend I did a warm up 7.5 hilly miles before a hilly 5k- I then raced my fastest 5k of the year: 27:47 – average pace 8:57. I was super pleased by this but I also realize that I couldn’t do this without all of the work I’ve put in. When you actually put in the work, follow a training plan – or tweak it to suit your needs, you will see results.

My goal for runDisney is to just enjoy the race, I will be running with my husband so I submitted our Cleveland Half Marathon time – so that we could run side by side. We are planning to dress up and perhaps do a character stop or two but we want to be prepared. I don’t want to feel sluggish for the evening or like I am crawling to the finish line.

Don’t forget to submit your proof of time, it’s due August 4th for Wine & Dine! (that’s tomorrow!!) And start working on your costumes, only 94 days left until our family takes on our first runDisney race! I guess I should start figuring out some costumes!

And, if you haven’t started training yet, what are you waiting for? Your long should be at least 6-7 miles by now…if you need some motivation grab a few friends and sign up for a 5k or 10k! 🙂
