D23 Expo 2015: Walt Disney Studios Booth Pics
It is safe to say that one of the most visited booths at D23 Expo this year belonged to Walt Disney Studios. Perhaps it was because of all the giveaways, artist signings, free activities, and panels that were happening in and around the booth. However, the booth itself, comprised of several different sections for the different facets of the studios probably had something to do with it. On one of the early mornings I got into the show floor before it got insanely crowded, I walked around and took some pics of all of the hard work that went into this booth. Let’s check it out.
Pixar
First up was the Pixar section of the booth, which probably provided most of the exclusive, random, and fun giveaways, and where a lot of the artist signings (mostly Pixar artists from what i could see) were taking place. However, with life-sized Lego replicas of Buzz and Woody, an Inside Out concept art display, and a wall of Pixar balls… it was a flashy section even without all of the free stuff.
Also on display starting Saturday after the Animation Panel were the posters for the upcoming slate of films, including the newly announced Coco and the reveal of Cars 3 and The Incredibles 2.
Across the aisle from the booth proper, there was set up an actual real life recreation of the Pizza PLanet Truck. This was pretty awesome.
Star Wars
Of course, the Star Wars section was centered around Force Awakens, with costumes from the upcoming movie on display…. and BB-8! As Vader would put it… Impressive!
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
Not much was on display from this movie, except for one of the costumes worn by Johnny Depp, who plays the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow.
Alice Through the Looking Glass
One of the few area where there was an activity, guests to this section could be made into a Wonderland character digitally. I did not take part, but it looked fun. Also on display were costumes from the movie, and giveaways included Mad Hatter paper hats and posters.
Disney Movies Anywhere
Now, it’s not a shocker that I collect Disney movies. It was only recently this summer that I discovered Disney Movies Anywhere while at a Disney Holiday Preview Event in NYC. Since then, I have been personally using the app around the house, on lunch breaks, and even on vacation to watch Disney movies and exclusive content on the go. At D23 Expo, in addition to talking to guests about the app and giving away clues to exclusive content… which I still need to do it there is time <forgetful silly ole bear>… the team were taking green screen photos of guests in a variety of Disney movie settings. I swung by the booth twice and, since they didn’t have a line, they let me choose two photos to take each time. In addition to giving you a keepsake copy of the photo (which printed almost instantly), they allowed you to post the photos to Facebook or Twitter, or email them to yourself. Let’s just say I had a fun time at this booth.
Marvel
The Marvel section of the booth was not that big, and it wasn’t surprising, seeing as Captain America: Civil War is still in production. However, they did have on display the Hulkbuster Iron Man Gauntlet from Avengers: Age of Ultron and Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man costume.
Disneynature
This part of the booth was the one I did not visit, as it didn’t feel appealing to me. Unfortunately, I did not take a photos of the section, which was all decked out in trees and showing information on the slate of Disneynature films. However, you can find information of all things Disneynature at their official website.
Walt Disney Animation
Probably one of the busier sections aside from Pixar, but for a different reason entirely… photo ops. Included in this semi small area were photo taking opportunities for Big Hero 6 and Frozen Fever (representing the just released Short Films Collection), as well as for the upcoming Zootopia and Moana films and the newly announced Gigantic film (which is loosely based on the Jack and Beanstalk fairy-tale).
Zootopia
A hidden Easter egg within the Zootopia display was this looping animation of a mouse on a wheel getting in his exercise, which was located within an apartment window on the side of the display. I was told by one of the booth cast members that this mouse is a named character in the movie. Pretty cool.
Big Hero 6
Frozen Fever
Also on display was some concept art and maquettes from the Short Film Collection films.
Moana
Gigantic
And with that concludes our around the booth tour. There were a lot of fun things to see and I am glad I got onto the floor before it became packed, as most of those photos were impossible mid-day, for sure.
