Fan Expo Canada 2015 Disney Infinity 3.0 Recap

Fan Expo is a 4 day convention held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada from September 3 to 6 2015. Fan Expo is currently the third biggest convention in North America after SDCC and NYCC.  Since none of the regular writers on the site could attend the con, DisKingdom reader Mathieu LeBlanc volunteered to cover the event since Disney Infinity was going to be there.

I did not attend the first day of the con since it was more of a 2 hour preview rather than a full day plus the exclusive Star Wars lunchbox included in my Premium Pass would not be released until tomorrow due to the embargo from Disney. (pictured below

Friday was the calmest day of the con since most people don’t show up until Saturday , I decided to stroll around meeting the cosplayers including coplayer superstar YaYa Han and visiting my friends from Archie , Fernando Ruiz and Dan Parent. I soon rushed over to the Disney booth which was smaller this year (Their former booth was taken over by Microsoft this year) but it did feature  Jason Moffitt and Matthew Sollie , two of the producers from  the Disney Infinity series along with several employees from Disney Canada standing near TVs featuring Inside Out , Twilight of the Republic and  Rise Against the Empire.

The  first highlight of the booth was the Photo Station where guests could take a photo with two possible Star Wars themed backgrounds ( Tatooine and Hoth) , after sending the pics to their e-mail address , guest could  proceed to spin the  Wheel of Fortune and try to win a prize , although the wheel did feature  lots of Try Again spaces compared to last year. where every space was a prize. The prizes this year were figures and shirts , a let down from last year where prizes included shirts , power discs , figures and signed concept art posters from the character designer of the game.

The second and the most important highlight was the screen featuring the soon to be released Toy Box Speedway. Disney were running a time based competion daily at the convention where the winner could win a random Disney themed suitcase which were based on Mickey Mouse, R2D2, Darth Vader and finally Minnie Mouse as well as a random figure and a PS4 starter pack. I entered 3 times and all my records were soon overshadowed by other players.

The booth also featured some unreleased characters such as Ultron although Jason’s Globe Trotting Ultron was also at Fan Expo  and Hulkbuster Iron Man who was displayed in a glass case with other 3.0 characters.

While I was at the Disney Booth on Saturday , Darth Vader and some Stormtroopers invaded the booth along with some crew from the 501st LEgion to pose for some pictures with fans for about 2 minutes ( I was one of the lucky few)  before heading off to the EA booth. Even the crew decided to snap pics with the Dark Lord.

The convention was pretty fun overall  , my coverage of the Star Wars products has already been posted on the site for your enjoyment and I really hope Matthew and Jason enjoyed themselves in Toronto this year, hopefully JV will decide to attend next year.
