Walt Disney’s Comics & Stories #723 Review

Walt Disney’s Comics & Stories #723 continues the story of “The Search for the Zodiac Stone” with Chapter 3 of 12: A Fistful of Shillings, which was originally from Italian Topolino 1782(1990), its worth noting that this story hasn’t been printed in English before. This story focuses on Donald Duck and Scrooge McDuck trying to get one over on a old rival of Uncle Haggis McDuck (no name could be more Scottish than being called Haggis!) in order to secure a piece of the stone. A great read and continues to show why the Duck’s work so well in the comic book environment, a really good read and plenty of gags for younger readers. While this is part of a larger story arc, it still can stand as its own unique story without worrying about missing previous editions.

The second story from this comic book is “Wolf in Wolf’s Clothing” from Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories 104 (1949). I’m gonna be honest, the Big Bad Wolf and Little Pigs are characters I’m not as used to seeing nowadays, while they were huge characters for Disney in the early days, today, they aren’t presented too often and this story was a breath of fresh air, reminding me of who they are and why they were so loved. I found it really interesting to have a different story for these characters and to get to know them. A very good story that younger fans will find funny and older fans can experience some of that older Disney magic.

I also love the variant cover edition featuring the Big Thunder Mountain railroad attraction from the Disney theme parks with Goofy, Donald and Mickey. These little touches are great for classic Disney fans.
