Disney Infinity 3.0 Marvel Battlegrounds Playset presentation at NYCC 2015

We just got to see some amazing stuff from the Marvel Battlegrounds Playset Panel and New York Comic Con and let me tell ya, this playset looks extremely fun. They gave us some information regarding the gameplay and the story line as well as so concept art. Also, some details regarding the way to play 4 player locally. Check out this pictorial from the live stream as well as some key points regarding the game below.

Also, stay tuned for some great thoughts about the playset from our own Travis, as well as some Hulkbuster gameplay footage since he was the give away at the panel.

• To explain the feel of the playset, think of the games Powerstone and Super Smash Bros. except this will have a great story line attached to it.
• The story behind the playset is that Ultron and Loki have teamed up to find an infinity stone and in order for them to keep the avengers and other heroes away, they create clone robotic versions of our heroes to keep us preoccupied.
• 3.0 new Marvel characters are currently Hulkbuster, Ultron, and Captain America – the First Avenger.

• You get to travel to amazing and new locations like Brooklyn Train Yard, Wakanda, Shield Lunar Base, and according to the panel, further up in space and different realms.

• Captain America – the First Avenger is not a variant but indeed a new character. He has a new skill set, different moves, animations, abilities, and his figure mold is different. Plus they distinguish the differences between the two Captain figures as the classic version and the theatrical version.

• The new Captain America figure was a last minute request by Marvel to add to the roster and he did not take the slot of a new potential character. This was added to the budget.

 

• JV and JB did confirm that because it is Captain Americas 75th anniversary is next year and he does have the Civil War movie coming out as well, it made sense to make the new Captain figure. At this time they don’t have anything planned or ready to discuss about further Variants.
• All the 2.0 Marvel Characters have updated skills and abilities honed basically for this playset alone. The 2.0 characters will stand their ground perfectly against any 3.0 characters.
• 4 player local gameplay does not require 2 bases. All you need to do is load your characters via one base to assigned players and your ready to battle it out.
• Jeff Bunker stated that they wanted to do theatrical versions of the Avengers but they ended up going with the classic look. The new Captain America is the first Theatrical look they made.
• New figures will be announced soon but looks like Marvel is the one having them keep there lids shut.

• They showed live gameplay of the 4 player battle between some of the developers and it looks amazing.
• They gave away Hulk Buster away to everyone at the panel.

 

We also learned some interesting things in the Q&A part of the presentation.

• Someone asked if we will see new Kingdom Hearts content added for 4.0. JV did lead on that its an ongoing debate and that they are close partners with the square enix team, however they have nothing to disclose at this time.
• Someone asked if we will see some X-Men characters added to the game as well as an additional person asking for Deadpool. Mike Jones said that they continue to discuss what they will add in the future but at this time there are many new characters to announce further down the road to the playset release.
• Black Suit Spider Man being listed as a 3.0 figure was indeed a bug and it should have come up as 2.0, however everyone has been asking for it to be released as a single figure and they will be talking about it next week to see if they will move forward with that.
• Someone asked if this playset unlocked new trophies for the systems but JV let people know that the way the game is set up, he trophies must come from the main game on the disc. Maybe in the future.
• Someone asked for for crystal variants and JV said they don’t plan on making anymore at this time, but that they may have something special to announce further down the road.

And an awesome bit of news that John Blackburn let out of the bag was….

• When someone asked for new characters for Star Wars, John Blackburn did say that they will having a new Star Wars Character announcement next week, and JV lost it because he let the cat outta the bag!
