Halloween Toy Review: Diamond Select’s Oogie Boogie

Happy Halloween Everybody!

On this day where we celebrate witches, villains, goblins, and ghouls, I’m taking a look at the newest toy incarnation of one of my favorite Halloween spooks: Oogie Boogie from Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas. This year, Diamond Select Toys rolled out a slew of new NBC merchandise, including 16″ Coffin Dolls, Minimates, and a Select line of action figures. Within the Select line comes this beauty, the Oogie Boogie Select figure.

Some of you who collected the NECA line of the Nightmare Before Christmas figures would notice a similarity to that Oogie Boogie figure. However, this version, for me, is a lot more solid. I love the added articulation in the waist and the added ball joints in the shoulders give a lot more range to the figure. A bulky character like Oogie Boogie, with no actual legs, has limited poses to it. Giving these few more articulation points helps display options a lot.

I also like the removable face option with this figure, which provides a look at the bugs inside, which make up Oogie Boogie. That being said, I would have liked seeing the eye and mouth sockets actually shaded in, as shown on the back of the box.

Of course, with it being fall outside here in the Northeast, taking Oogie outside for a few shots in the leaves appropriate. Love the fall weather, and Oogie, though brown, stands out among the rest of the fall colors.

All told, this is a really great figure, and I am happy to have it as part of my Nightmare Before Christmas collection. If you want to add this awesome figure to your collection, as well as the Select Jack Skellington and Sally action figures, make sure you visit your local comic book or specialty store location, or visit Diamond Select’s website.
