Have You Gotten Your Force Awakens 3D Glasses Yet?

Okay, some of you might be thinking me crazy for asking that already, with it being almost a month before the movie comes out. However, what you might not know is that the Cinemark chain of movie theaters are already selling their exclusive set of collectible Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens Real 3D glasses… and they are a hot commodity.

Week 1 (11/6-11/12) saw the First Order Stormtrooper released, and this week (11/13-11/19) saw Captain Phasma released… which is just a variant color of the Stormtrooper. Week 3 (11/20-11/26) shows Kylo Ren being added to the mix, and BB-8 rounds out the set in Week 4 (11/27-12/3).

People seeing these on social media are confused…. “How can you get them?” and “They aren’t being given out for FREE?” are two of the most common questions. Here are the answers: No, they are not free, and obtainable at the Cinemark Theaters concession stands. A single pair costs $5 each, with that price being lowered to $3 with the purchase of a concession stand combo or a Coca-Cola product.

Note the “While Supplies Last” part of this? Some locations have been reporting that Week 1 and Week 2 styles are already sold out, and will not be restocked. Note that these are simply reports. Given the popularity of the remaining two characters, you should expect those to sell out as well. In a nutshell:

If you want these 3D glasses, do NOT wait until the movie comes out.

Some of Cinemark’s advertisement suggest that they will be giving them out if you see the movie in 3D when the movie opens. That’s a tricky one, since it really depends on how you read into the advertisement. I have yet to see the word “free”… merely stating that you can see the movie and get a pair of 3D glasses. If they are giving them out for free, perhaps they will be getting in a special shipment strictly to give out at the showings.

Other people have been wondering if these glasses will be at other theater chains for the movie. My speculation is… no. Why? Because the wrapper that these glasses come in say “Cinemark” on them, and I doubt a chain would call them an exclusive to them if this was not the case. Could I be mistaken? Yup, sure could. However, with movie promotions, exclusivity usually is correct.

I ended up getting the Stormtrooper and Captain Phasma glasses yesterday while watching the Fantasia 75th Anniversary Celebration, so I am set for those two pairs. Just need to track down the other two when they are released. I do not have a Cinemark Theaters near me, per say, but I can make a trip of it given planning.
