Holiday Highlight: The Good Dinosaur Action Figures by TOMY
Next week, the highly anticipated next chapter in the Pixar story comes to life with The Good Dinosaur, a story revolving around Arlo, an Apatosaurus, and Spot, his human boy companion, as they traverse a world where the asteroid that took out the dinosaurs never actually hit. Surrounding the release of the movie are toys, games, and more… all to enhance the connection to the movie for kids and adults alike.
One of the companies releasing some really great toys in conjunction with the movie is TOMY, who also did some exceptional work with this year’s other Pixar movie, Inside Out, as well as the Miles from Tomorrowland animated show from Disney XD. When I got a first look at some of these toys at the Toy Insider HoliDAY of Play, I immediately knew that these would be a hit to families. I mean… who doesn’t love cute dinosaurs?
The core line of The Good Dinosaur toys from TOMY revolves around the action figures. There are four different levels: “small”, large, extra large, and the premium Galloping Butch.
Special thanks to Dan the Pixar Fan for the package shot of these figures.
Make sure you visit him for all the fun Pixar stuff in his collection.

Notice that all of the “Small” and Large figure packs each have a small animal included? This is one of the cool things about this toy line. By collecting all 12, you complete Forrest Woodbush’s animal menagerie. In the movie, Forrest “collects” animals, as he believes they protect him. In the movie, he actually tries to “collect” Spot from Arlo… which is also the moment where Spot gets his name.
This week, TOMY sent over a few of their figure samples from their show tours for me to take a look at. Here are Bubbha, Will, and Mary Alice.
Given that they are dinosaurs, they have limited articulation. Each one has between 6 and 7 points of articulation, and that includes the mouth which opens and closes, and is a nice touch when posing them on a shelf. The paint job I can’t really comment on, as these are preview samples, and therefore the color might not be right. In fact, it looks like Mary Alice and Bubbha had some details scaled back during production.
All in all, I think these figures will be a big hit for the holiday season, and are already on the store shelves for people to get as gifts for the favorite Disney fan. I have a feeling I will be picking up a few of these for my collection, especially after seeing the movie on Black Friday… shopping and a movie… sounds like a plan!
Happy Holidays everyone!
