The Good Dinosaur Set To Be Worst Performing Pixar Movie

The Good Dinosaur is looking like it will be the lowest grossing Pixar film since “A Bug’s Life”, which made $363.4 million worldwide in 1998 as the Good Dinosaur could be the first box office failure for Pixar, according to Variety, the movie only brought in $131.3 million globally and takings are already starting to slow down, up to 60% less attendance than the opening week.

Reports are predicting that the movie will be lucky to crack $400 million in theaters and with a production budget of $200 million and around $150 million spent on marketing.

However it should be noted that the movie hasn’t been released in all territories yet such as Japan, Brazil, and Korea. It’s unclear if it will be screened in China, which would boost ticket sales. But Disney will still make up ground with merchandising and home entertainment sales.

MMX Partner Erik Handler has said “It’s not resonating like a typical Pixar films.” “It’s on a path where they’re going to need home entertainment to drive profitability. Usually with Pixar, by the time they’ve gone through the first [release] window, they’re in the black.”

The Good Dinosaur is expected to stick around in theatres throughout the Christmas period when it will be competing with “Alvin and the Chipmunks The Road Chip,” and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.

The Good Dinosaur hasn’t had an easy ride as the original release date was pushed back over two years, production was nearly canceled, there was a change of director, the story was changed along with many of the cast members.
