Uncle Scrooge #9 Comic Book Review

Issue 9 of IDW Publishing’s Uncle Scrooge features 2 stories that are both new to the USA, Blizzard Blues and Another Christmas on Bear Mountain.  With this issue out just a week before Christmas, this issue has a holiday theme.  This book also has a variant cover featuring Disneyland’s Main Street dressed up for Christmas that looks beautiful.

The main story of this issue is “Another Christmas on Bear Mountain” and is from Italian Topolino 2717, 2007.  This story feels slightly similar to the other “Scrooge” we are similar with at Christmas but with a number of twists.  Grandpa Santa visits Uncle Scrooge to remind him to not to get caught up too much in the spirit of Christmas, taking him to a log cabin in the woods where they try to trick Donald Duck with a Bear costume, as you might expect, chaos follows and it doesn’t quiet go according to plan, but with it being Christmas, everything turns out good in the end.  Its an amusing story that while it felt similar, having Grandpa Santa as a “Scrooge” who didn’t like how nice his grandson (Santa) was.

The second story of this comic book is called “Blizzard Blues” and is from Dutch Donald Duck 50/1995.  This story sees the Duck family go on a bus ride which gets snowed in and once again Uncle Scrooge’s tightness causes problems for everyone.  I really enjoyed this story as it enforces how not keeping everything maintained and to save money, can cost more in the long run.

Another solid issue of Uncle Scrooge and fitting perfectly with the concept of a Scrooge at Christmas!
