We Need To Talk About Rey.

While not much is known about the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VIII, people close to the project have already begun teasing the populace with what is to come. Perhaps the most intriguing character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens is Rey, played by Daisy Ridley, the scavenger girl left on a desert planet waiting for her family to return. Colin Trevorrow, of Jurassic World fame, will be behind the lens on Episode IX and promised Entertainment Tonight a tremendous pay off when it comes to Rey’s backstory.

“We’re going to make sure that [the] answer is deeply and profoundly satisfying,” promised Trevorrow, “Rey is a character that is important in this universe, not just in the context of The Force Awakens, but in the entire galaxy,” he continued. “She deserves it. We’ll make sure that that answer is something that feels like it was something that happened a long time ago, far away, and we’re just telling you what happened.”

J.J. Abrams said something similar when asked about just how much he knows regarding Rey’s origin, although he was less forthcoming with his embellishment, giving the opportunity to share this secret to his successor Rian Johnson.

“Obviously, it’s not for me to talk about in this moment because this is Rian’s story to continue now and the last thing I’m going to do is reveal something that he would be upset about. I want to make sure that Rian gets the courtesy,” Abrams said to the Television Critic’s Association.

Popular Rey theories include her being a Kenobi or a Skywalker, but based on what the two directors have said, it is safe to say that Rey’s story will change the galaxy far, far, away, regardless of who her famous parents may or may not be. Who do you think Rey really is?
