The Fantastic Four No More?

Since 1961 the Fantastic Four have been Marvel Comic’s first family. Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, the Human Torch and the Thing have battled cosmic adversaries and otherworldly demons.

In 2016 Marvel comics has announced that it will be discontinuing the series. There are many thoughts around the internet that feed into the reasons why. In a recent interview with Comic Book Resources, Marvel executive editor Tom Brevoort said that, “at a certain point, we set out [in Secret Wars] to do the last Fantastic Four story, at least for the time being,” although he admitted that, “we didn’t necessarily start with that as the original goal.”

The Foursome as survived the Civil War and defeated Fin Fang Foom and Dr Doom, but the decline in readership and possibly some corporate infighting have been their downfall, last summers Fantastic Four film starring Michael B Jordan and Kate Mara could not have helped.

The split ownership of film rights and comic rights between Fox and Disney has been a long known rift splitting the fanbase and leaving Disney not really knowing what direction to head with the characters.

Marvelites, don’t be afraid, The Thing can still be seen with the likes of Rocket Raccoon and Gamorra joining the Guardians of the Galaxy. While the Human Torch has recently taken up a romantic relationship with the Queen of the Inhumans, Medusa and can be seen in the Uncanny Avengers and Uncanny Inhumans comic series’. Mr. Fantastic can sort of be seen as a villain in a new Avengers series. (Don’t worry it’s an alternate universe Reed)

The Fantastic Four are also available for play in Marvel Puzzle Quest (which is one of my favorite games).

What do you think? Is this the right move for Marvel Comics?

It’s sad to see what’s happening to Marvel’s 1st family. Quick edit: where you say “a long known rift… (Disney) doesn’t know what to do with the property.” I think you meant to say FOX. But anyways maybe this means the fantastic four will go back to marvel studios

I meant it as Disney is stuck between a rock and a hard place. The real culprit of the end was really the underperforming book. The fact the Disney is stuck with Fox just made the decision easier to axe the book
