First Look: Jakks Pacific’s Disney Tsum Tsum Series 2

Today an image surfaced detailing the checklist for Series 2 of Jakks Pacific’s popular vinyl Tsum Tsum line. Here is the picture:

Points about this new series:

  1. Inclusion of Pixar characters, which were hinted in the artwork for Series 1 but were missing from the actual assortment.
  2. A new scarcity coding (Common, Lucky, and Super Lucky), which would lead me to believe that Series 2 will be more blind bagged and less open window display, similar to the Mystery Stack Pack Accessories.
  3. The return of some of the Series 1 designs, which is great for new collectors, but not so good for us that have all of Series 1.
  4. The omission of a couple of characters that we have yet to see all sizes of released in Series 1… Sebastian and Lucky specifically.

When does this new series come out? Hard to say. Rumor is late February or early March. If that is the case, that would mean at least 4 Series of these a year, which can get expensive for us completionists. Hopefully at Toy Fair next week, I can get more information for you directly from Jakks Pacific. That being said, make sure you get your Series 1 completed ASAP, as we do not know when the turnaround will take place.

  • This is both great news, and frustrating news. Great in the sense that I was looking forward to new characters and I’m very excited about some of them. But frustrating in the fact that four releases a year means I’ll need to buy more frequently or possibly miss out. I don’t like feeling pressured to buy anything.

I also notice that quite a few of these say “Coming Soon”. There were some like that in Series 1 and I’m comparing the chart for that right now to the image above. It seems that for the most part all of the ones that were “coming soon” will be released in this next wave except for the Large Sebastian. He’s missing altogether which I find strange given this series includes Ariel and Flounder. So I guess there’s not going to be any guarantees that a particular Tsum will ever be released even if the enclosed literature indicates it will be produced. I really hate it when companies do that sort of thing.

All of that aside, I’m glad to have this first glance. It gives me a chance to see what Tsum’s will still be around that I don’t have but want (mainly Alice and Piglet but I don’t like the other Tsum’s included in their packs) so I’ll have “another shot” at them. And It lets me know that I should go out and be sure to add ones like Anna and Figaro to my collection because they probably won’t be around for long. I’ll probably buy the ones I would be really sad to do without now, then wait for Target to put the rest on clearance. The people at my local stores are super helpful, I’m sure if I ask when they’re likely to mark them down they’d tell me. I have two within 15 minutes of my house, so why pay full price for them if I don’t have to? I’m hardly going out of my way to get them.

I went to my local Toys-R-Us yesterday and the Tsum Tsum area only had 2 packages left of the Series 2 – one 3-pack and one 9-pack. Naturally, I had to buy them both! The surprise figure in the 9-pack were medium peas!!! I couldn’t be more thrilled. They are SO cute.

I just found a handful of 3 packs of series 2 in Fort Lauderdale, Fl at Toys R Us and a single stand alone 9 pack mixed between a bunch of series 1s at Target. Been to three targets and two Toys R Us and that is all I have come up with.

Is this just because it isn’t completely released yet? Or is this it? Are they so limited that not many are circulating? I know series 1s are everywhere…..even the mystery packs. But cant find any series 2.

  • 1. Series 2 releases actually have a lot of Series 1 mixed in as well… I am calling them “repeat offenders”. Same number as far as the collection, they were just brought back for another round.

    2. They are slowly being rolled out to different areas in the US, with JAKKS planning on most places having them by the end of the month or so, I would suspect.
