The novel, which was originally announced with the title Star Wars New Republic: Bloodline at New York Comic Con last October, has been revealed to be centered around none other than Leia Organa herself. The story will focus on Leia as a leader in the New Republic as she starts to see a new breed of leaders arise who have failed to learn from the wrongs of the long-gone Empire.

Force awakens 3

As was previously announced, the novel is being written by Claudia Gray who is best known as writer of the fan-favourite YA book Star Wars: Lost Stars. Bloodine is set approximately 6 years prior to the events of The Force Awakens and will feature several characters from the movie. However, many new characters are also being introduced. One key character is named Ransolm Casterfo who Gray described when talking to USA Today as ‘an ambitious young senator who’s Leia’s political opposite in virtually every way. He even collects artifacts from the Empire, like pro-Palpatine banners, pieces of armor, and so on.’

Along with these details, we were also treated to our first look at the cover (above) for the novel as well as an excerpt from chapter 13 which can be read here.

Star Wars: Bloodline releases on May 3 in the US.
