Disneyland Opens Exclusive Locations For 60th Anniversary
Just in time for The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60 special on Sunday night, Disneyland has recently let a select (and might I add incredibly lucky) few writers into the extremely exclusive Disneyland Dream Suite as well as Walt Disney’s personal apartment above the firehouse of Main Street U.S.A. IGN recently got a full tour of everything the suite of mystery holds and were very generous as to let the rest of us in on the secret.
The Disney Dream Suite is located above the entrance to Pirates of the Caribbean in New Orleans square, and was only occupied a handful of times in 2014. Reservations cannot be made, but sweepstakes have been held to offer guests the opportunity of a lifetime, allowing them to stay for a single night. Disney also uses this room periodically for VIPs: actors in recent Disney films or execs joining or leaving the Walt Disney Company.
The suite is made up of a master bedroom, a second bedroom, a bathroom, and sitting room, along with an indoor and outdoor patio. But as one might assume, this suite has an incredible amount of Disney magic in it. Each room is themed to a different land: the master bedroom is Adventureland, the second bedroom is Frontierland, the bathroom is Fantasyland and the sitting room is New Orleans Square.

In addition to the immaculate décor, each room has what is referred to as a “kiss goodnight”, which is a special feature specific to each room that makes it come alive. For example, the Adventureland room has a button that makes the lights dim, the score to “The Jungle Book” begin to play, and a waterfall complete with mermaids project from the ceiling. Each room’s kiss goodnight can only be initiated 3 times in a night so as to prevent guests from over using it and minimizing the magic.
IGN’s tour also included a stop on the original Main Street U.S.A. and the apartment Mr. Disney had built during construction of the park to allow less travel between Anaheim and L.A. The apartment is kept looking exactly as it did in the 1960’s, with a simple open studio layout, with a small kitchenette and endearing pieces from the time such as the famous lamp that is kept lit in the window 24 hours a day. Originally, there was a hole in the floor that allowed the Disney family to slide down a pole into the firehouse below, but was closed up because a fan once shimmied up into the apartment while Mr. Disney was inside.
Both of these exclusive locations will be toured by the voice of Olaf from Frozen, Josh Gad, during Disney’s The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60 on Sunday February 21st, 2016 at 8 pm. ET/PT on ABC.
