The Punisher Is Not Spinning Off Of Daredevil

Despite the buzz in the rumor mill about a possible Frank Castle spin-off, Marvel’s Television Executive Vice President, Joseph Loeb, squashed those claims. His crushing admission comes after media outlets continue to probe him on whether or not The Punisher will be getting his own series. He finally said, “I think that’s something that people are speculating on, as opposed to something that’s actually happening.” That being said, if Daredevil’s newest trailer is any indication, The Punisher will be awesome to watch.

Loeb also said that it is his hope that “our characters will be embraced and people will want to see more of them.” He accomplished that goal last year with both Daredevil and Jessica Jones receiving second season renewals from Netflix and judging by the quality of Daredevil’s season two trailer, which showcases The Punisher, this goal will continue to be met.

Frank Castle aka The Punisher will be played by Jon Bernthal of The Walking Dead fame. He has summed up Castle’s conflict with Matt Murdock aka Daredevil for the new season. He claims that both characters have similar sentiment towards each other – and that sentiment is, “You don’t know what I’ve been through. You don’t know what I’m all about. Get out of my way.” While that sounds like it will cause an outright battle between the pair, Bernthal also hinted at a culmination of understanding between the two. He went on to say, “What’s interesting is you find these two characters that are so alike and so different and then when they collide, they just learn from each other.” This dynamic should be very interested to watch since both characters are vigilante types and do not truly represent good or evil.

Spin-off or not, The Punisher will be crushing it on Daredevil’s upcoming second season. Be sure to tune in and start binge watching the season on March 18th, only on Netflix.
