Disney Working On A Nutcracker Movie

Disney is continuing its trend of turning classic fairytales into movies as Variety is reportimg that Disney is developing “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms,” which will see Lasse Hallstrom as the director set to direct.   The movie is based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” and Ashleigh Powell will be writing the script.

The Nutcracker is focused on a young girl called Clara, who receives a nutcracker doll from her godfather on Christmas Eve. When the girl goes to check on it later that night, the clock strikes 12 and she finds herself thrust into a fantastical world in which a war rages between gingerbread soldiers and an army of mice.

Also joining the project are Mark Gordon as a producer and Lindy Goldstein as the executive producer.  Also on the project is Sam Dickerman, Allison Erlikhman and Sara Smith.
