Disney Tanabata Days at Tokyo Disney Resort June 16 to July 7, 2016

URAYASU, CHIBA— Tokyo Disney Resort® announced that the program “Disney Tanabata Days” will be offered at Tokyo Disneyland® Park and Tokyo DisneySea® Park from June 16 through July 7, 2016. This year, the event will be held over an extended period of three weeks.

This program gives a Disney touch to Tanabata, the traditional Japanese event also known as the Star Festival. Guests can also enjoy the Tanabata atmosphere at Disney Ambassador® Hotel, Tokyo Disneyland® Hotel, Ikspiari® and on the Disney Resort Line. Guests can experience this seasonal program in a manner unique to Tokyo Disney Resort.

The Disney Characters will greet Guests in “Tanabata Greeting” at both Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. Mickey Mouse and his friends will offer their greetings dressed in costumes themed to Tanabata.

At Tokyo Disneyland, a Wishing Place will be set up in the center of World Bazaar. There, Guests can write their hopes and wishes on Wishing Cards and tie them onto the Tanabata decorations just as the Disney Characters have done. Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will ride on rickshaws along the parade route to greet Guests.

At Tokyo DisneySea, Guests will find a Wishing Place set up at Hudson River Docks in the New York area of American Waterfront. Appearing on a boat in Mediterranean Harbor for “Tanabata Greeting,” Mickey Mouse and his Disney pals will greet Guests to the traditional Tanabata song.

Both Parks will offer special merchandise for the occasion, including memo pads themed to the Wishing Cards written by the Disney Characters. Guests will be able to enjoy special menus that reflect both the season and the Tanabata theme. Guests ordering the special menus will receive an original Wishing Card.

In addition, Guests visiting the Park dressed in summer kimonos during the special event period can take part in “Yukata* Disney Campaign” and enjoy Tanabata at the Park in a unique way.    *Yukata is a Japanese summer kimono.

Also, the Disney Ambassador Hotel and the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel will offer special menus which will be available during a limited period. Moreover, Guests can enjoy the Tanabata atmosphere at the four Disney Resort Line stations and at Ikspiari where original Wishing Cards will be distributed to Guests.

Dressed in Tanabata costumes, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will appear on specially decorated rickshaws. Their Disney Friends will join them in greeting Guests along the parade route to the traditional Tanabata song

DECORATIONS

The Wishing Place, located in the center of World Bazaar, will be decorated with bamboo branches and Tanabata streamers with a Mickey-shaped top. Guests will be able to write their dreams and wishes on Wishing Cards and hang them at the Wishing Place.

Dressed as Hikoboshi (Altair) and Orihime (Vega), the two star-crossed sweethearts of this festival, Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will be joined by their Disney pals and the Disney Princesses and Princes on a boat for “Tanabata Greeting.” As the traditional Tanabata song is heard, Mickey and his friends will offer their greetings and their hopes that the dreams and wishes of all the Guests will come true.

DECORATIONS

The Wishing Place set up at Pier 32 in the New York area of American Waterfront will be decorated with bamboo branches and other typical Tanabata elements. So that Guests can write down their dreams and wishes, Cast Members dressed in summer kimonos will be handing out Wishing Cards that can be tied onto the Wishing Place.

SPECIAL MERCHANDISE

About 20 different types of merchandise for Tanabata will go on sale. These include plush toys of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse as the star-crossed sweethearts Hikoboshi and Orihime. Also available are memo pads, straps and key chains with a motif of Tanabata streamers and Wishing Cards. Available for the first time will be items featuring summery designs of Minnie Mouse dressed in kimono.

These include approximately 10 different types of merchandise such as folding fans, bags and pouches. At Tokyo DisneySea, Guests will find Tanabata designs on costumes for Duffy and ShellieMay that are available during limited period, as well as Tanabata-motif plush toys of these popular characters.

SPECIAL MENUS

Restaurant Hokusai and Blue Bayou Restaurant in Tokyo Disneyland, and Restaurant Sakura and S.S. Columbia Dining Room in Tokyo DisneySea, will each serve special dishes inspired by Tanabata. Guests ordering the special menus will receive an original Wishing Card that they can hang at the Wishing Place. The design of the Wishing Card will be different for each Park. The two Parks will also offer a dessert that comes with a souvenir cup designed with Mickey Mouse as Hikoboshi and Minnie Mouse as Orihime.

In addition, Guests can enjoy the Sparkling Tapioca Drink prepared specially for Tanabata at Boiler Room Bites and Captain Hook’s Galley in Tokyo Disneyland. At Tokyo DisneySea, Liberty Landing Diner will serve Shaved Ice themed to Tanabata and three locations, including Barnacle Bill’s, will offer a special cocktail inspired by Tanabata.

YUKATA DISNEY CAMPAIGN

Guests visiting the Park dressed in yukata (summer kimono) during the special event period can take part in the “Yukata Disney Campaign.” The “Yukata Disney Guidebook” will give Guests ideas on how to enjoy the Park in a unique way. For example, the guidebook gives locations that are ideal for photos taken in yukata, as well as how to pose for a perfect shot. Guests can also find out about merchandise items that enhance their appearance when wearing yukata.

Disney Hotels

The restaurants and lounges at both the Tokyo Disneyland® Hotel and the Disney Ambassador® Hotel will be serving special menus themed to “Disney Tanabata Days.” Dreamers Lounge (lobby lounge) at Tokyo Disneyland Hotel will offer an afternoon tea set featuring decorations with a motif of Mickey Mouse as Hikoboshi and Minnie Mouse as Orihime.

For the first time, Guests can also enjoy a dessert set with a motif of Donald Duck and Daisy Duck in Tanabata costumes. Sherwood Garden Restaurant (buffet service restaurant) will offer dishes that are perfect for the season, including bread and dessert, with a motif of stars and bamboo branches inspired by the Star Festival. Special course menus will be offered at Canna (fusion cuisine) with dishes beautifully decorated to give the ambience of Tanabata.

In addition, Restaurant Hana (Japanese cuisine) and Empire Grill (California cuisine) at Disney Ambassador Hotel will be serving dishes themed to a romantic Tanabata atmosphere. Hyperion Lounge (lobby lounge) will offer desserts with a motif of the Disney Characters and Tanabata. Also on offer will be a special non-alcoholic cocktail that comes with a Wishing Card designed exclusively for the hotel.

Disney Resort Line

Resort Gateway Station of Disney Resort Line will welcome Guests with a photo spot themed to Disney Tanabata Days, and original Wishing Cards will be distributed at all four Disney Resort Line stations. Guests can write their wishes on them and then tie them to the Wishing Places.

Ikspiari

A Tanabata event will also be held at Ikspiari. Wishing Cards will be distributed to Guests at Ikspiari in commemoration of its anniversary on July 7, the day of Tanabata. Guests can write their wishes and hang the cards on the bamboo branches that are decorated for this summer festival. Restaurants and shops will offer special merchandise and menus to celebrate Ikspiari’s 16th anniversary.
