Walt Disney’s Comics & Stories #729 Comic Book Review

Issue 729 of the Walt Disney’s Comics & Stories features 3 stories, all of which, haven’t been printed in the US before. This issue includes “The Search for the Zodiac Stone Chapter 9 of 12: The Tropics of Cancer” from Italian Topolino 1788, 1990, “Hocus Focus” from Norwegian Donald Duck & Co. 45/2011 and “Which Switch Is Which?” from Dutch Donald Duck 34/2002.

The main story of this issue is the ninth chapter of the Search for the Zodiac Stone and is called “The Tropics of Cancer”, and much like with other chapters of this story, it stands on its own and isn’t connected with other previous stories. This story focuses on Mickey Mouse trying to track down a evil villain and as you might expect, things don’t go according to plan and give us readers a few chuckles along the way.

This is followed by a single page story called “Hocus Focus”, which features Gyro Gearloose in a nice quick story. After that we get a Donald Duck story called “Which Switch Is Which?”, once again featuring Gyro Gearloose, this time Donald and his cousin use a device to keep switching places while on a date with Daisy Duck. Once again Donald’s jealously causes mayhem and I thought this was the best story of this issue.

This issue also features a variant Disneyland cover featuring the Harold from the Matterhorn. Issue 729 is another good mix of stories with both Donald Duck & Mickey Mouse taking centre stage.
