Disney Picks Up “Paper Magician” Movie Rights

It was first reported by the Hollywood Reporter that Disney has acquired the film rights for Charlie N. Holmberg’s “Paper Magician” book trilogy. Not only that but they have set up the project with Producer “Allison Shearmur” who is also on the “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” film.

The book series is focused on a young student at the Tagis Praff School for the Magically Inclined, where she’s assigned an apprenticeship in paper magic, despite her dreams of casting spells on metal. She ultimately learns of the extraordinary dangers of forbidden magic. After an excisioner — a practitioner of dark magic — rips her teacher’s heart from his chest, she must face the evil magician and embark on an adventure that will take her into the chambers of his still-beating heart and reveal the very soul of the man.

“The Paper Magician,” the first book in the series, was published as an e-book by 47North, an imprint of Amazon Publishing, in September 2014. “The Glass Magician” was released in November 2014 and “The Master Magician” was released in June 2015.

Shearmur was an executive producer on “The Hunger Games” movies and a producer on Disney’s live-action “Cinderella.”
