ORANGE IS THE NEW PURPLE PART 1 :

The last time we saw our favorite terror that flaps in the night was the year 2011, he lost the love of his life, he lost the run for Mayor to Launchpad and he lost his comic book. But now , thanks to the support of the fans, Joe Books is proud to bring you the further adventures of Darkwing Duck and his many friends and of course his many foes in a brand new on-going series.

The story for this first issue begins with an electrifying start as Megavolt takes control of the St-Canard Electrical Parade to cause havoc but thanks to Darkwing Duck and the driving skills of Launchpad McQuack , his plans got washed up.

After suffering a barbecue outing with the Muddlefoots , Darkwing discovers that his daughter, Gosalyn is going to the ribbon cutting of St-Canard’s newest high security prison. Disappointed that he wasn’t invited, he decides to sneak in just in time for a breach of the jail’s security system which unleashes all its contained villians ( including many famous one-shot villians from the animated series) against one cornered roast duck.IMG_0557

The art contained within this issue is some of the best work to come out of the hands of James Silvani. Darkwing’s expressions are as cartoony as ever whenever he gets shocked by sudden gelatin desserts or flattened by a hammer. The writing feels like you are reading a long lost episode of Darkwing Duck with its many jokes, puns or references to various other shows or characters from the Mouse House.

As a special bonus feature, be sure to check the last pages of the book for a special letter from Mr. Sparrow for the franchise’s 25th anniversary along with snippets of an actual storyboard from a classic episode of Darkwing Duck. You can grab your own copy of Darkwing Duck #1 through the official Joe Books website or at your local comic book shop. A digital copy of the book will be available at a later date.IMG_0556

The only other Disney Afternoon series I followed is DuckTales, and with the ongoing Uncle Scrooge comic, I can’t see needing a DuckTales book.
