The Zootopia Collection by TOMY (Review)

Ever since I first saw the Zootopia collection by TOMY at Toy Fair 2016, I was excited… and the movie wasn’t even out yet. TOMY hit home runs in design with both the Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur collections previously, and I loved the look and play-ability that the Zootopia figures brought to the table. This past weekend, in followup to the TTPM Spring Showcase, TOMY sent over some of the figures and a couple of the talking plush for me to take a look at a little more in depth. Let’s check it out.

Zootopia Figure Two-Packs, SRP: $8.99

With six character two-packs available in mass market retail (not counting some of the retailer exclusive packs, like Toys ‘R’ Us) and two more coming in Fall 2016, these bring some of the beloved Zootopia characters, and a few new ones, to life in action figure form. Some of the really small figures have no articulation, while all of the larger ones have at least some. Are the hyper-articulated? No, but I wouldn’t expect them to be.

My review box contained three of the two-packs: Nick & Finnick, Mayor Lionheart w/ Lemming Businessman, and Officer Clawhauser w/ Bat Eyewitness.

I will say straight away that Finnick is top-heavy, and his tail has to be placed in a certain way to keep him from toppling over. Aside from that, there were no major issues with the figures. Paint application is on par with other mass-produced kids toys. Out of the ones I got, I think Clawhauser had the best paint application.

Oh…. Em… Goodness!

Overall, I like the character selection and will be on the hunt to find the other three, although it looks like Judy was repeated in with her Police Cruiser, which we will look at next.

Judy’s Police Cruiser, SRP: $24.99

Along with the line of figures, there are also vehicles on store shelves. One of these vehicles is Judy’s Police Cruiser. Not sure if I ever remember Judy having an actual cruiser in the movie, but I am sure she got one when she became a “real bunny cop”.

There are many features of this vehicle, including working lights in the front fender while the cruiser is in motion, a flip up top so Judy and her colleagues can patrol Zootopia in style, and a jail cell built into the trunk to catch the bad guys.

Now, as far as ride-alongs go, Nick was able to fit into the cruiser IF his tail was removed (don’t worry, it pops on and off real easy).

Clawhauser, however…. is a no go, even with the tail removal.

Overall, the cruiser is put together pretty well, and I especially like the detail of the jail cell in the trunk. From what I have seen with these samples, this action figure set is pretty fun.

In addition to Judy’s Police Cruiser, available are Nick’s Convertible ($14.99), Judy’s Meter Maid Pursuit ($14.99), and Finnick’s Van (coming this Fall). Also coming this fall is a Police Station Play Set that will come with a Clawhauser figure.

Nick Wilde & Judy Hopps Talking Plush, SRP: $19.99

Finally, here is a look at the Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps talking plush. Sold separately, each stands about 13″ tall. Nick has seven sayings, while Judy has six… and all are directly from the movie.

Also available is the 2-in-1 Ele-Finnick Talking Plush, which is a Toys ‘R’ Us exclusive and an SRP of $29.99.

Well, that’s all for today’s look at some of the Zootopia collection by TOMY. Did you see a favorite figure or plush? Do you own this collection and, if so, what are your thoughts? I would love to hear your reviews below.
