Disney have come to an agreement with Major League Baseball to acquire a one-third stake in the streaming-video unit of the league’s MLB Advanced Media technology arm, according to Bloomberg.

Disney will have a four-year option to buy an additional 33% stake in MLBAM’s streaming unit and continues to build their streaming business as the new Advanced Media BAM tech for use with ESPN and their international platform, DisneyLife.

“You see the biggest sports media company moving to greater digital delivery,” said Chris Russo, a former National Football League executive who now heads sports investment banking at Houlihan Lokey Inc. in New York. “It really shows they’re trying to get ahead of the digital phenomenon rather than being left behind it.”
