Spoiler Alert: Smuggler’s Bounty Jabba’s Palace Subscription Box Reveal

If the headline didn’t give it away, this article will contain spoilers for this month’s Smuggler’s Bounty subscription box from Funko. July’s theme was Jabba’s Palace and all the items should be connected to that locale (more on that later). Spoilers are coming after the next photo!

Okay if you are still here you like to live on the edge. You aren’t afraid of spoilers, no sir! The first thing I noticed was the sheer size of this month’s box. Much larger than the Cantina box.

As usual, we get a pin and patch.

This month we are getting a few different things. I have no problem with a bit of variety.

Here’s a Jabba mug. Makes sense to have Jabba in here some how. It’s his palace, duh.

We also get a Boba Fett plush. My 6 yr old has already claimed this as his own. It’s a cute little guy.

This month we get a hat instead of a shirt. Now I have a big head (no comment peanut gallery) so I don’t wear hats much so I enlisted my teenage daughter to wear the hat. She positively refused to be seen on my “silly website” so take what you can get here! The brim sort of tilts upward which probably ages me out of the normal audience for such hats regardless.

As usual, the Pop is the big item in the box. I know some were disappointed because they had built up the Pop in this box to be Carbonite Han. I would definitely love a Carbonite Han but this Pop isn’t bad though.

Now on to the “controversy” of this choice. R2D2 dressed like this was on Jabba’s Sail Barge. Some are complaining that he wasn’t in Jabba’s Palace like this so it goes against the box’s theme. I personally think that’s taking it a wee bit far. Not to get all Star Wars nerdy on ya (and believe me, I can) the sail barge had to be parked somewhere at Jabba’s Palace at some point, so I think it’s okay that they included it. It’s not like they put “R2 swallowed by a Dagobah swamp monster” pop in Jabba’s box.

As for value, we yet again got a box that was worth far more than the $25 we were charged. Now, I understand some people wanted the shirt, or 2 pops, or Carbonite Han, but not liking the box choices doesn’t mean it’s not “worth what you paid.” Mystery boxes can’t excite every person every time. As long as Smuggler’s Bounty to continues to pack their boxes with value, I’ll continue to subscribe. You can subscribe to September’s Death Star box by clicking the image below.
