Disney Develops Patent For New Drone Use At The Parks!

When it comes to cutting edge technology The Walt Disney Corporation Imagineer’s never stop dreaming up new ways to entertain guests! And now come Drones, but how they will be used to entertain us looks to be magical!

The new patent called Air Delivered Special Effects, seeks to use a “flight mechanism that propels [a] discharge platform through the air. The discharge platform also comprises of a storage apparatus that stores a special effect device such as pyrotechnics, confetti [and] smoke charges.”

From artificial snow & confetti to more advance enhancements like fireworks or flying characters could be used in all sorts of venues.

Traditional firework setups can take up large areas of space and can be unsightly if in the public viewing area. Not to mention some of these restriction can limit viewing areas due to multiple factors, Drones or as Disney is calling them Flying Robots can be used at higher altitudes thus improving the viewing experience and even improve on increasing the viewing area for a greater viewing experience with greater sight lines and excitement for audience members.

 

The plans are for Flying Robots to be operated via a wireless transceiver — like a remote control — or on a timer that can shoot a firework or drop confetti at a specific time in a show.

Knowing Disney, they will incorporate the Flying Robots into as many theme park experiences while maintaining the highest level of safety of its guests.

The type of Drones that Disney, which will not be the type one can easily go to the local hobby shop and buy but a much larger and more advance type of machine Disney will be using falls the will will be working with the government to ensure safety and reliability of these devices. The operation of Drones falls into the jurisdiction of the “Federal Aviation Administration” in the US.

Now Disney does have a few other patents they are working on which will also delight its park guests. One Patent they are currently working on is how to bring a lightsaber-esque experience to the theme park world.
