stl006241

Another month passes by with another new issue full of the adventures of those ever lovable Disney Princesses, we are at the halfway point with Issue #5 since this comic will end in January after a 8 issue run.

Let’s dive in , shall we ?

Ariel learns from her sister Arista that they were some pirates in some nearby seas, so Ariel swims on hoping to find  shiny loot that pirates usually drop. Belle and Cogsworth discuss his duties at the castle with typical commentary supplied by Lumiere. Cinderella has a lovely discussion with her step sisters about birthdays. Past memories are brought up about Drizella’s *generosity* and Rapunzel encounters an apple shortage while baking a pie with Eugene, could a certain captain of the guards be responsible ?

Merida and the suitors talk about their family trees to see which of their fathers are the worst, what can be worst than losing a leg to a bear ? You will find out with this tale. Cinderella explains to the mice about why certain people in the castle have been chasing their friends away. Rapunzel and Eugene celebrate their anniversary together re-enacting moments from their first adventure.

Merida must outwit her brothers as they set their sights on her latest baked treat. Ariel gets caught sneaking to the human realm once again by Attina. Later on,Ariel is pestered by her sister Andrina with her witty puns. She gives Jonathan Gray a run for his money. Belle decides to pass time by outwitting Gaston while she reads at the fountain. Arista and Aquata must find out who stole some charts from the royal archives, how will they succeed ? And lastly, Belle teaches the Beast about poetry to the best of her skills.

This issue contain five longer stories so I will cover each of them separately in their own little section:

MUSHU’S REVIEW

Mushu informs Mulan that the ancestors were about to review his work as her guardian as part of an annual review. He tells Mulan to mush up her views on him to make it seem like he did an amazing job. One problem, Mulan can’t see or hear them.

The ancestors soon inform Mushu he did barely anything this year as Mushu starts making up excuses until Mulan stands for him saying he hasn’t caused a stampede until the ancestor brings up his list of damages as things don’t look good for the poor little dragon.

TRAVEL CAT

Aladdin and Jasmine are off to Egypt for a little vacation but Rajah wants to come along, putting himself in the suitcase as Jasmine tries to find a way to get him out. Jasmine eventually tricks him out but it doesn’t work out for too long for the poor young couple.

SPICY ALLIGATOR

Louis is having stage fright at Tiana’s as he fears the humans would be too scared of him to enjoy his music. After a disastrous entrance, Louis tries explaining that he is only a music lover but forgets they can’t understand gator and plays with his trumpet.

Tiana and Naveen sees no one is willing to dance and decides to start on their own to encourage the others. The night turns out to be a success after all.

BEAUTY AND THE BOOKS

Belle decides its time for Beast to organize his books to make it easier for her to look for books. One of their shelves crumbles after the weight of the self-help books takes its toll on it. Then Belle saves one of the books from the well meaning Lumiere from a fiery doom. Many more incidents happen in this tale but you will have to find out on your own how its solved.

BEDTIME STORY

Snow White tucks the Dwarfs in their beds and decides to read them a bedtime story as the Dwarfs try to suggest her different stories as the princess tries to read the story. The seven men began asking her questions throughout the tale and interfere such as Sleepy peeping at a picture of the girl in the book.

After much discussion, they finally agree on a plot and Snow White reads it to them.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Another brilliant issue of Disney Princess, this issue seemed to focus on Ariel and Belle a lot more than the other princesses but considering Little Mermaid had a live show and its Beauty and the Beast’s 25th anniversary this year, this does make sense. Amy Mebberson’s art still shines on with her unique take on the princesses of the Disney canon accompanied by Georgia Ball’s witty writing and Patrick Storck’s more charm filled writing. This is a must read for Disney fans of all ages and a great way to introduce comic books to small girls who adore the Princesses already.
