Disney has filed a lawsuit against Michael Brown, who is operating a number of different businesses including New York Jedi, the Lightsaber Academy and Thrills & Skills for trademark infringement, cybersquatting and unfair competition.  These businesses have been running classes on learning the Art of Lightsaber Combat and Stage Combat.

Lucasfilm has served multiple cease notices to the company, which resulted in Michael Brown filing a trademark for “Lightsaber Academy, Inc”.

They said that “Among other infringing activities, Defendants use a logo that is nearly identical, and confusingly similar, to Lucasfilm’s trademark Jedi Order logo… round in shape, with six wing-like shapes curving upward (three per side), and an eight-pointed star featuring elongated top and bottom points stretched into a vertical line.”

Lucasfilm is asking for a permanent injunction, with up to $2 million in statutory damages for each trademark infringed.
