A employee cafeteria at the Walt Disney World Swan Hotel was closed down by health inspectors on October 12th due to live cockroaches and fruit flies being discovered in the kitchen.

While the Swan resort is located on Disney World property, it is managed by Starwood Hotel, and was reopened the following day with a clean inspection.

The report said, “Observed 14 live roaches crawling on the kick plate near hot boxes,” the report read. And Treva Marshall, a spokeswomen for the hotel said “The hotel does have an otherwise good record and was reinspected and approved to reopen the next day”.

Our Take:

It is unfortunate that this employee cafeteria had to be shut down due to pests, its hard not to believe that, had this been a “customer” serving cafeteria, rather than to “employees”, standards would be higher.  Things can go wrong in a kitchen and pests are issues for almost every establishment at some point, but thankfully the situation has been addressed.
