Disney’s latest animated classic, Moana, headed straight to the top of the US box office over the Thanksgiving weekend, bringing in $81.1 million over the five-day holiday period and $55.5 million for the weekend.

This continues Disney’s incredible year at the box office, with so many of its movies being smash hits such as “Captain America: Civil War,” “Zootopia,” “Doctor Strange,” “Finding Dory,” and “The Jungle Book”. Disney also still have the latest Star Wars movie, Rogue One to be released in December.

Disney distribution chief Dave Hollis spoke with Variety and said “We are working with the greatest brands and we’re doing big, broad storytelling that resonates domestically, but has the power to transcend borders and languages and cultures around the world”.
