It seems we’re getting the live-action remake of The Lion King sooner than we thought! Jon Favreau, who directed the live-action The Jungle Book, had signed on to direct this new Lion King film, but many thought The Jungle Book 2 would take precedent. However, an interview with Favreau’s visual effects supervisor may have confirmed otherwise. Robert Legato, who worked on The Jungle Book, spoke with CinemaBlend and confirmed that he and Favreau will be working together once again on The Lion King. Legato was quoted as saying “It’s the very next one [we’re doing]”.

According to Legato, “[They’ve] already started the plans, and all of the various things, and the updates to the various ways that we filmed The Jungle Book, to add to and extend the art form a little bit more in Lion King, which is going to be another live-action looking movie”. Not only will the film featureĀ songs from the original, but Favreau has spoken about his desire to use Virtual Reality technology to create and sculpt the scenery in the film. Despite this exciting news, no release date has been confirmed for the remake, but expect an announcement soon.
