Dick Van Dyke To Appear In Mary Poppins Returns

Dick Van Dyke has confirmed that he will be returning for Mary Poppins Returns, which hits cinemas on Christmas Day 25th 2018. The new movie is set 20 years after the original 1964 classic, and Will features a new cast including Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins, along with Ben Whisham and Emily Mortimer as the grown up Banks children, and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Mary’s new buddy Jack.

Dick Van Dyke revealed in Ann interview that he was involved in the movie during a feature at the Hollywood Reporter on actors over 90.

“There was a spirit about that thing from the very beginning,” he said. “Walt [Disney] had me in, and I heard the score and saw the scenes storyboarded on a wall, and I just knew. This one supposedly takes place 20 years later and the kids are all grown up. It’s a great cast — Meryl Streep, Angela Lansbury and that guy [Lin-Manuel Miranda] from Hamilton.”

Dick Van Dyke told Entertainment Tonight that directors wanted him to play the banker’s son in the Mary Poppins Returns and said “I’ll be going to London in the spring to do my role, and I get to do a little song and dance number. I gotta be a part of it.”
