Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One Scarf Review

The last expansion pack for Star Wars Battlefront has arrived and to tie in with the release of Rogue One, this latest addition brings us some new maps, new playable characters, a new ship, a new mode and more content based on the new movie.

This expansion pack is available individually and as part of the Season Pass, it does offer plenty of excuses to jump back into the game, which was released over a year ago.

As with most shooters, experienced players will get the most of most notice or returning players, so getting back into the swing of things does take a little time but one of the great things about Star Wars Battlefront is the arcade pick and play feel, so for more casual shooting fans like myself, it’s just fun jumping in and knowing even if you get killed a dozen times in a match, it doesn’t matter as long as your having fun.

While Season Pass holders got hold of the expansion pack a little earlier, once you’ve seen the movie, it might change your mind about it, playing it before the movie felt different to playing it afterwards. The two newer characters are a nice touch, though I’d have liked a few more playable characters. But sadly they feel a bit less impressive compared to many of the other heroes and villains, due to simply being new characters and of course, they don’t use the force, which I’m personally prefer to use as it makes the characters feel different to normal Rebels or Troopers.

I loved the Scarif maps, the jungle and beach environment feel very different to the other maps, if it wasn’t for the AT-AT’s in the background, I could have been back in Mexico on vacation.

The space battles in the new mode are very enjoyable and I prefer the story element of doing a space mission, then going to the beach to complete a couple more missions. Having story based missions linked together is exactly what I prefer, rather than just jumping in and out of modes.

Rogue One Scarif is a great tie in, it should help fill the void until we see a new sequel in 2017, I do feel that, with over a year since I paid for the Season Pass, I would have liked a little more. Last year saw the Battle of Jakku expansion pack given away for free to boost the game ahead of the Force Awakens being released, I feel this expansion could have included much more to give the game a major boost for the holiday season and to keep players invested for a while longer.

Rogue One is a nice tie-in, since it takes place around the time of the original trilogy, it fits in with the era of this game, having Anakin Skywalker or Kylo Ren included wouldn’t make too much sense but having been a Disney Infinity player, I just wanna have fun in a game and aren’t too worried about what is Cannon or not.

Hopefully we see a little more from Rogue One in the next Battlefront game, as this feels like a nice add on and not the full experience Rogue One could have been.

This expansion pack has been a lot of fun and looking at this as a £10 expansion, I feel I have for hours of entertainment out of these new maps and have enjoyed playing the new mode a number of times, especially playing it from both sides. With the price of the base Battlefront being so cheap now and even being included on EA Access, if your a Star Wars fan and haven’t picked Battlefront already, this is a awesome game and this latest expansion continues to show off one of the best looking games ever plus have lots of fun in the process.
