Animal Kingdom Welcomes New Elephant Calf

Disney’s Animals, Science and Environment Team is proud to announce the the birth of its seventh elephant calf, Stella, born to 28 year old elephant Donna!

Donna became pregnant through natural breeding back in January 2015 and received extensive prenatal care along with ultra sounds and a team of vets, scientists and elephant managers monitoring donna’s hormone levels so they could determine when she would give birth.

Donna and Stella spent time backstage where she nursed stella while bonding with her mother and her new family members. This will be Donna’s third calf as she has given birth to Nadirah in 2005 and Luna in 2010. Stella puts the number of the elephant herd to 10 now with 3 males and 6 females in total. Disney’s Elephant program continues to help with the worldwide conservation of these creatures.

Be sure to welcome Baby stella during your next visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom on Kilimanjaro Safaris!
