RUMOR: Disney’s Grand Floridian to be Redesigned

In a surprising twist of events, the latest rumor going around within Disney Parks is that Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa could possibly be gutted and reformed into a modern luxury resort.

The resort is 28 years old, has a 4.7 out of 5.0 star rating and combined Victorian elegance with modern sophistication for all these years.

According to the rumor, that was originally reported by WDW News Today, was that Bob Chapek, Chairman of Disney Parks and Resorts is not at all a fan of the resort which boasts the most expensive stays per night at Disney World. Apparently Chapek believes the Fours Seasons Resort Orlando is what the Grand Floridian should be more like. Executives are trying their best to talk Chapek out of completely gutting and remodeling the resort hotel. This is mainly because it is a well liked and very popular hotel with guests and it would cost a great deal of money to do so.

One proposed plan is that they build a new flagship hotel just north of the Transportation and Ticket Center instead but according to sources, execs have had no luck changing Chapek’s mind.

There are not even design plans on the table yet but if Chapek follows through and decides this plan will happen, the lobby and all of the rooms will be gutted and replaced with something more modern and luxurious.

What are your thoughts on this possible change?

Why would he change something that is so beautiful & engaging by so many…..diversity is what sets this MAGICAL KINGDOM apart from all the rest. I have had the pleasure of visiting this magnificent hotel ,with hopes of bringing my family here for a week of beauty( on my bucket list). We have enjoyed dining at Narcoosees , having cocktails up stairs while overlooking the picturesque grounds, shopping at the lovely stores , breakfast with Mary Popins,Alice,Tiger,Winnie, & The Mad Hatter. Not to mention the mindless act of simply sitting in the grande lobby for a relaxing conversation of a day well spent in DISNEY, while the musicians played up in the balcony. CHRISTMAS IN THIS LOBBY IS SOMETHING TO BE SEEN …THE TREE & GINGER BREAD HOUSE ARE TRULY MAGICAL !!!
After years of WISHING to stay there….this is the year I was HOPING to stay there.
    If it isn’t broke…..why fix it !?

I picked this hotel for its charm and appeal. I wanted the old world charm and beauty. TO REMODEL THIS and to change to modern steel and chrome would be a shame. I love the old world charm. This is one of the reasons I came to Disneyworld…

Why would anyone even contemplate doing such a renovation? The whole charm to that resort is the Victorian theme. Why update it to be modern, much like the Four Seasons? If we wanted to stay at the Four Seasons, we certainly would do so. The issue with the Grand Floridian, is simply that service has been declining. Disney needs to focus more on Housekeeping Services, as well as Maintenance…and stop making unnecessary cutbacks. Cutbacks are all the reason for the decline in rating. However, none of us die hard GF fans would ever dream of staying anywhere else. Not being able to book a vacation there speaks volumes. Focus on making the atmosphere and service top notch, and Disney will have it’s flagship resort back. Proceed with this renovation, and Disney will surely lose loyal guests.
