Vacation Kingdom Know How: Birthday at Disney World

Walt Disney World is one of the best places to celebrate- from engagements to holidays, weddings and more. One of the most fun times to celebrate at WDW, I think, is birthdays. I’ve spent a few birthdays at this, my favorite place, and will be celebrating there soon again.

This Friday the 30th I turn 30 (!!!) and we are celebrating on Disney property in a few weeks with some Orlando friends, so what’s special about a Disney birthday?

Birthday buttons, hats and dancing, oh my!

1. The Button

Make sure you get a birthday button! If you’re staying on property, get one when you check in or pick one up when you get into the park at Guest Relations. I can almost guarantee you’ll get quite a few birthday wishes from CMs and it may set into motion a little pixie dust magic.

If you’re into character interactions, it makes for a fun topic of discussion and possibly a special interaction. I’d be lying if I didn’t say I had to go visit Rapunzel on my birthday so I could have photos with her to celebrate the day (I didn’t ever say I’m not a nerd, mind you).

2. Table Service Meals
At every table Service meal I’ve had on property that I let them know it’s my birthday on the reservation, I’ve been given a special dessert. Generally speaking, it’s a cupcake, sometimes with a candle to blow out. It’s a special little treat at the end of the meal & makes it more memorable.

Other places might do something such as sprinkle the table with confetti or something similar, like they did when we visited California Grill to celebrate our engagement. I have also received a birthday card signed by some of the characters at the end of a meal, it all just depends on how the wind is blowing the day you show up, I think.

This year, a large group of friends are coming with us to Sanaa at Animal Kingdom Lodge to celebrate and I’ll report back on if they do anything special. While we aren’t going into the parks, I wanted to soak up some good Disney atmosphere and I try a restaurant a little nicer than we tend to frequent when we visit WDW, so I’m so excited!

3. Simply Celebrate

Besides getting birthday wishes and perhaps an extra sweet treat at a meal, celebrating your birthday at Disney World is the best because you can simply celebrate. When you step into a Disney park, you’re stepping into another world and that can be a great time to just take it in, enjoy your surroundings and celebrate. You can act like a kid or watch your kids enjoy the parks and do things you don’t get to in the relationship world: zap some aliens on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, get soaked as you hear the tale of Brer Fox and Brer Rabbit on Splash Mountain or go Soarin across the world and then walk around it at World Showcase. I know all these things can be done most any day at Disney, but a birthday at this place is just a little more special.

Blow out your candles and enjoy your big day!

If you have any ways you like to celebrate at Disney World, leave them in a comment…I’m always looking for more ideas!
