Shanghai Disney Resort Promotes Healthy Lifestyles for Children with New Support for Junior Tennis

Following a magical match at the Shanghai Rolex Masters Family Day event where Mickey Mouse and Goofy joined tennis stars Roger Federer and Wu Di in a friendly volley, Shanghai Disney Resort announced plans to further its commitment to the healthy development of children in China by supporting Shanghai Ruikebi Youth Sports Club’s Junior Tennis Program in 2018.

As a centerpiece initiative of Shanghai Ruikebi Youth Sports Club, the Junior Tennis Program has made significant contributions to building awareness for this popular sport and helping Chinese children pursue a balanced and healthy lifestyle. With Shanghai Disney Resort’s contributions, the program will be introduced to two migrant schools in Shanghai next year, benefiting an additional 280 students each week, giving them access to sports training and education opportunities, while providing positive reinforcement for their mental and physical wellbeing.

“At Shanghai Disney Resort, we are committed to creating healthier generations, and we believe that inspiring healthier lifestyles today will create a brighter tomorrow for children in our community here in Shanghai and across mainland China. The Junior Tennis Program provides a great opportunity for us to continue to inspire and empower children to live active lifestyles, and we are honored to help deliver the program to children where it has not yet reached,” said Philippe Gas, general manager of Shanghai Disney Resort. “We hope through programs like these, more children can enjoy and share a healthy, active, and fun childhood.”

While bringing the Junior Tennis Program to the new schools beginning 2018, Shanghai Disney Resort’s committed VoluntEARS will also help in the training, bringing their passion, skills and lively Disney spirit to the coaching sessions. Following the 2018 program, 70 outstanding tennis students will also be selected to participate in the annual tennis competition, putting their new skills into practice and helping them achieve new experiences and dreams.

The newest tennis initiative comes as part of the resort’s comprehensive corporate citizenship program, which strives to create lasting positive change and promote the happiness and wellbeing of children and families. By collaborating with professional and community programs like Junior Tennis, Shanghai Disney Resort aims to enable and encourage young children to live healthier lives so they can flourish both on and off the court.

Shanghai Ruikebi Youth Sports Club is one of China’s largest non-profit children’s sports education and coaching organizations, and launched the Junior Tennis program in 2009 as a way to help deliver tennis training and education to kids across China. With Shanghai Disney Resort’s support, the program will now be extended to reach young children studying in two Shanghai schools devoted to the families of migrant workers.
