Disney Junior Music Nursery Rhymes Vol 1 Soundtrack Review

Disney’s latest Junior album features 20 classic Nursery Rhymes by Rob Cantor and Genevieve Goings, including Itsy Bitsy Spider, Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, The Alphabet Song and many more.

Now I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not the target audience, this album obviously is aimed at young children and I think this album does a very good job of offering a slightly different take on these classic songs. The artists involved in this project seem to have taken it very seriously in trying to offer something good for kids, rather than just doing straight cover versions.  So if your after a classic collection of Nursery Rhymes, this one might not be for you, but I’m sure younger kids will love it.

There are many different types of music in here, as many of the classics have been given a style of music, such as a country song, a jazz club song, rock, and more. While many of the tracks sounded like your typical pop song or something that you’d find in a Disney Channel movie, there is a little variety including a track that sounds like Michael Jackson, another sounding like Owl City and one even sounding like Duffy. And I think this is a great way of presenting this music to a younger audience, who are growing up on many different styles of music and this album gives a little variety, which will please parents listening to it over and over.

While the track takes over 20 tracks, these tracks only average 2 minutes each, which works well for some of the songs, which have a tendency to repeat themselves.   Which does work well for younger children to remember the words while singing along.

A quick look at the huge number of views each of these tracks have had on YouTube shows there is a huge audience for this type of content from Disney. It’s worth noting that the music videos feature classic Disney characters, the music versions don’t have much connection to Disney, bar “Old McDonald” which brought in Donald Duck (I’ll be honest, I did actually laugh out loud when I heard this the first time!). And I think this album will be very popular, especially in a world of streaming or as part of a playlist for children.

OVERALL: A great collection of short classic Nursery Rhymes with many of the tracks having a unique style that makes them stand out. And it is an adorable collection of classic songs with a modern twist.
